Erin Kaplan: One ‘Elle’ of a City girl!
Not that I’m addicted or anything (I SO am!) but I’m just loving Season 2 of The City following Whitney Port’s adventures in the big Apple.
One of the best couplings this season has to be New York socialite Olivia Palermo and Erin Kaplan, PR director at Elle Magazine.
The two come to blows in their first meeting, with feisty Olivia telling Erin if she wants a job done, to go and do it herself! (what ever happened to interns being nice!) Not Miss Palermo having grown up with a silver spoon in her mouth – something that riles Kaplan from the onset – and there begins the battle with Elle’s Creative Director Joe Zee fighting in Palermo’s corner to retain her as she’s “good for the magazine“. Whilst Kaplan feels she’s full of attitude and is more of a hindrance than a help. It makes for great TV and whilst Olivia comes across as ‘butter wouldn’t melt,’ you just know underneath those designer clothes we all want – she’s probably a rottweiler in waiting! Whereas Kaplan who comes across as completely ‘out to get’ Olivia, is actually quite nice deep down..no really!
Don’t believe me? Then read on for an interview with the lady herself below!
So you come across as being such a tough-cookie who takes no sh*t from anyone, is that the ‘real’ Erin, or do you add a little extra for the cameras?
“The bottom line is I want what’s best for this magazine and I have to protect the relationships I’ve built up and if Olivia had come in and done an amazing job right-off, I would have said that.”
Do you feel the editing of the show set out to deliberately depict the friction between you and Olivia?
“The programme shows some of the relationships between key people at Elle and it just so happens with Olivia being the new girl and me stepping in to help her there is more to show, but it’s such a small part of what we both do on a daily basis. If I’m portrayed as really hard on camera, that’s one side to things – but I’ve been frustrated at being portrayed as somebody who doesn’t care about what’s best for the magazine and that’s totally not how it is.”
Do you enjoy working with Olivia?
“I was skeptical of how well we would get on and work together, as I was un-sure if she was a team-player which is really important at the magazine. That’s why I was seen voicing my concerns about her to Joe Zee (Creative Dir for the magazine.) But if she does well for the magazine then I’m game for her to stay. I have to be the eyes and ears of Joe and so it’s in my best interests to get on with Olivia and make things work for the magazine. We’re all a team here.”

Freddie Fackelmayer: MTV Made Me A “Womanizing Jerk”
Freddie Fackelmayer, a 2005 graduate of the George Washington University, wants everyone to know that he’s not a “womanizing jerk.” Fackelmayer just finished up a stint as a boyfriend to reality television star Whitney Port on MTV’s “The City,” a a show about Port’s real life working in the fashion industry.
“They can still make you look however they want,” Fackelmayer said “They made me be this sort of womanizing jerk, which is not really who I am,” he said. How does that work? According to Fackelmayer, MTV “never asked the cast to say or do anything, but the editing that followed skewed what actually happens.” He adds: “You know they cut it up [into] little bits and they pick what they want to make it as interesting as possible and it’s tough not to look like a jerk, I think.”
Fackelmayer said he became involved with the show after his younger brother met Port during filming in New York. Fackelmayer said producers approached his brother to get Freddie on the show as well.
"I was reluctant at first 'cause I was worried how it would affect work after being on one of these shows, but I gave it a shot," Fackelmayer said.
"[Whitney's] got a lot to say and a lot on her mind," Fackelmayer said. "She's just been doing this a lot longer than any of us and she knows to keep her two worlds entirely different. There's a Whitney and there's a Whitney on The City."
Fackelmayer, who grew up in Greenwich, Conn. and knew a couple of the cast members before filming began, went into filming prepared but said he still felt he was inaccurately portrayed.
It's not fun to look like a jerk on TV, it's not good to be a sloppy mess when you've got a real job," he said.
Fackelmayer who has been working for a commercial real estate company has another job he's like to add to his resume - author. Before the show, he started writing a novel about two young boys growing up in Greenwich, and said appearing on MTV has opened a lot of doors.
"I'm speaking with agents, and that's actually something that actually has been helpful, because agents, if you're a first-time writer, its really difficult to get your foot in the door, but I sort of skipped those really difficult first steps because most of them had heard of me," he said.
Fackelmayer said he has put his time on MTV behind him and has no qualms about his appearance on the show. He adds that although he and Port are no longer dating, they are still good friends.
"I'm not looking back on it, I don't regret it. I'm just focusing on what I've got going on now," Fackelmayer said. "And we got great ratings."

Audrina Patridge Thinks It's "Laughable" Kristin Cavallari Is Dating Her Other Ex
Audrina Patridge isn't outraged that Kristin Cavallari is seeing another one of her former flings.
Of reports that Cavallari, 22, is dating Tal Cooperman (co-owner of the DCMA Collective clothing line), a source tells Usmagazine.com: "Audrina thinks it's laughable. Tal and Kristin have gone out a few times now, but it's nothing serious. Tal and Audina never officially dated and are still friends."
Still, the source says of Cavallari (who famously dated Patridge's ex, Justin Bobby): "Why does she continue to chase Audrina's sloppy seconds?"
Despite on-air catfights, Patridge, 24, recently told Us she and Cavallari are on better terms these days.
"At the end of the day, it's a show," she told Us of The Hills. "It's entertainment. And you can't take anything serious on that show."

Stephanie Pratt talks self confidence and the worst beauty advice she's ever received
Unless you've been living under a rock, you know about the MTV show, The Hills. In this interview, The Hill's own Stephanie Pratt is talking beauty, fitness, and opening up about her flawed skin as a teen!
What is your daily beauty regimen?
Stephanie: I grew up with so much acne. When I was in school I would have to stay home from school because I had such bad rashes from really harsh products. Like, if I went into the beauty store with you, I would have probably tried 80% of the products that were in there. I am a follower of Dermalogica products. I do the Brazilian blowout for my hair. I get really frizzy hair, because its wavy and it gets tangled because its long, so this stuff called 7 second by Unite Eurotherapy is absolutely amazing. It’s a spray detangler and a leave in conditioner.
What is your fitness regimen?
Stephanie: I have an elliptical machine in my living room, so I walk my dogs everyday and then I do the elliptical during any free time. I’ll do it barefoot or with no makeup, just any free minute I have I’ll get on that. I also lost so much weight walking. I spent most of my summer in New York, and the weight just fell off since I walked everywhere. From just 4 months in New York I dropped a pant size.
What is the best beauty advice you’ve ever been given?
Stephanie: My brother actually gives me really good beauty advice. He told me to take fish oil Omega pills, and those are fabulous. I totally see a difference. Thank you, Spencer!
What is the worst beauty advice you’ve ever taken?
Stephanie: Putting eggs and mayonnaise on my hair. I was like 11. You cannot get mayonnaise out of your hair, or the smell of eggs!
Who is your beauty idol?
Stephanie: Halle Berry is just always amazing, her skin is always glowing.
How has your style evolved throughout the years?
Stephanie: I stopped caring about people judging me and just dressed how I feel every morning when I wake up. I don’t need brand new shoes just because it’s a trend.
How was the experience of being a cameo in a music video?
Stephanie: It was the most of my year probably. My call time was like 11:30PM and we didn’t wrap until 5:30AM, so I drove away with a breakfast burrito. It was just so fun! Definitely one of the coolest things I will ever do in my life.
Do you have a message for my readers about beauty/self-confidence?
Stephanie: I know for myself, I feel most beautiful when it’s coming from the inside. When I see a different in myself in pictures when I’m working an event where I didn’t want to be there, and my heart wasn’t into it, and then if I’m walking out of a meeting that just went really well and I got to talk about Save A Life animal charity, that’s when I really glow. Beauty comes from happiness and finding that inside. I think doing selfless things really brings out a glow in people.
