The City star Whitney Port says MTV's latest reality phenomenon, Jersey Shore, is about entertaining, not offending.
Italian-Americans have complained about the series, which features eight tanned, hard-partying, self-declared "guidos" and "guidettes" as they drink, dance, hook up, and, with varying work ethics, try to sell T-shirts. Two advertisers have backed off.
At the launch of Tacori's new fashion jewelry collection 18K925, Port told TVGuide.com that although the show features over-the-top stars, "you could say that about any reality show."
"Everybody is trying to get their most exaggerated side out there and to cause drama," the 24-year-old said. "But it's definitely entertaining."
Whitney's own reality show, The City, was recently picked up for Season 2 and will focus on the launch of her fashion line, Whitney Eve.
"They're chronicling the whole process from starting to design, to the fashion show at Bryant Park [and] everyone's back in action," she said.
