Kelly Cutrone Dishes on ''The City', Jersey Shore And Getting Your Game On!

You worked really closely with Lauren Conrad and Whitney Port on 'The City' and 'The Hills'. Do you keep in touch with them?
Kelly: I keep in touch with Whitney a lot. I mean Lauren, when I see her we talk and stuff but we were never… like she would never call me and spend holidays at my house, Whitney does. I’m really close to Whitney.
We hear you’re launching your own fashion line?
Kelly: I am – I’m doing a new brand with Chris Burch we’re starting a brand called the Electric Love Army which I’m really excited about.
MTV: How has that transition been for you? Going from PR to the other side?
Kelly: Well, I’ve been doing it for 20 years… and we’re constantly styling and also working on a bunch of collections where people are spending anything from $250,000 to $1 million to make them, and we're watching what works and what doesn’t. So it’s kind of like working in an amazing horse track. After a while you kind of know how to breed the horse, how to find the right jockey and how to make it run.
I had to start making brands - I can’t just sit there and know all this and not spin it. My whole thing is, I want to strip the walls of the fashion world down and bring it to the masses. I don’t like the fact it’s an art form that people are not always welcome in. I want girls to be able to go in and feel good about themselves and feel really empowered and not have to be some granola indigo girl.
So ‘Jersey Shore’…
Kelly: Jersey Shore!!? I rode in a jeep with The Situation to the MTV awards… it was me, Whitney and The Situation and Frankie [from 'The Hills'] and it was pretty funny!

What do you think of their whole style sense? You know, rocking the whole Ed Hardy look, the bling…
Kelly: I bet they’re not now! I bet J-Woww and Snooki are rocking the Louis Vuitton and Balenciaga at this point...
Define success…
Kelly: Knowing that you’ve done your best, between 88% and 100% and that you’ve given whatever you're doing your best and you’ve brought as much of yourself as possible with what you have to work with. That’s my measure for motherhood, as a manager, and an author. You can’t do one thing the way you would do eight things; your measurements have to change but if you’ve done your best, give or take, you’re allowed a couple of bad days of bad behavior. I kind of look at it like a bank deposit, you know, you’ve got to take a few withdrawals and you can do it on a weekly basis, as long as you make more deposits. [laughs]
What’s next?
Well I’ve got my new book which I think is spot on for the times — it covers fashion, human rights, women. Then on April 18 I’m shooting a new pilot for MTV, and I’ve been executive producing a series on E! [The Fashion District]. And my line with Electric Love Army comesout in 2012. So yeah, there’s a lot going on!

Rumour - Are Kim Kardashian And Avril Lavigne At War?

Kim Kardashian is not a fan of Avril Lavigne -- even though she is totally happy to use her as a press opportunity.
One source tells In Touch that Kim specifically told her stepbrother Brody Jenner not to bring the songstress, who he has been dating since last year, to a recent family dinner in LA. "Kim texted to tell him it was family only, no significant others," the source said. "But they were completely welcoming to Lamar Odom, Khloe's husband, so Avril was really hurt. Brody ended up not going to the dinner."
And, after Kim brushed Avril off, the reality star had the nerve to show up uninvited to the pop star's album release party on March 8 at nightclub SL in NYC. According to insiders, Avril was upset that Kim was there. "Kim was not invited to the event. The night was not supposed to be about her," one insider tells In Touch. "Kim took all the attention away on the red carpet, and was posing for photos inside as well. She stole the spotlight."

In fact, her appearance at the event seems very odd, since, according to Brody's ex Jayde Nicole, Kim has made no effort to get close to Brody's girlfriends in the past. Jayde tells In Touch, "Kim and Brody were not close at all when we dated. I only met her once," she tells In Touch. "Brody and Kim did not have a relationship."
One onlooker at the party even said, "Avril left her own party early. She seemed sad and was not happy that all the attention was diverted to Kim being there."
Hmmm...I'm not buying this rumour, are you? Avril strikes me as being a strong enough woman that she wouldn't allow Kim (or anyone) to steal the spotlight from her.

Lauren Conrad's Top 10 Style Secrets

Lauren Conrad’s style has been on an upswing for seven years now (ever since she first appeared on MTV’s The Hills in 2004!) and there are a few things we’ve learned from her fabulous feminine style. We sorted through thousands of images of LC to identify her signature fashion tricks, from eyeliner and belts to oversize bags and evening-ready shorts. Click through to see some of Lauren Conrad’s top style secrets—and learn how to make them work for your wardrobe, too.

Dress Up Your Shorts
Conrad chooses shorts that transform an otherwise casual item into a perfectly dressed-up look. Try a flat-front black pair, which can translate into a great evening look with a pair of pumps and loose blouse.

Add a Wave to Your Hair
Conrad's loose, flirty waves echo her casual, natural style.

Perfect Winged Eyeliner
Lauren Conrad rarely goes out without expertly lining her lids with black eyeliner for a perfect cat eye effect. Conrad's trick: Bring the edges to a point at the outer corners, which opens up the eye and makes them look larger.

Cinch Your Belts
Conrad loves to highlight her waist—she believes is there's no better ally than a great belt. Pair them with everything from draped dresses to minis to oversize tops to reign in voluminous fabric and create an hourglass shape.

Work Your Jackets!
The perfect layering piece that can give any look polish, blazers are a staple of Conrad's closet. Use a long, lean boyfriend cut to instantly update a traditionally feminine look

Go For Minimalist Oversized Bags
Conrad usually opts for neutral totes that are large enough to stash a little bit of everything. Look for bags with little embellishment or texture in rich hues like camel, caramel or sand to go with everything in your wardrobe.

Show Some Leg
Conrad loves to show off her legs with thigh-skimming minis. Choose either a looser, breezy silhouette or a slight A-line in a thicker material to keep the look chic and fashionable.

Keep Your Pumps Classic
Conrad—who loves to play with color and textures, solids and prints with her clothing—keeps her footwear timeless with simple silhouettes and neutral hues like black and nude

Vary Your Braids
Conrad's signature hairstyle is her braid. Take a cue from Conrad's assortment of styles and try a side braid with a half updo or casually twist one into your strands when you wear it down.

Skinny Pants + Loose Top = Perfect Combo
Conrad says skinnies are her go-to cut, pairing them with billowy blouses and lengthy tunics for the perfect balance of shape and proportion. Look for leather or dark-rinse denim styles for a slimming silhouette.

Lauren Conrad Talks Personal Style & Designing for Kohl's

By Sarah Sudar
Lauren opened up to me about the inspiration for designing the Spring 2011 collection for Kohl’s, as well as influences on her personal style. This is what she has to say.
SS: Where do you find inspiration for designing your fashion collections?
LC: I want my designs to be representative of my personal style and incorporate things that I find beautiful, like flowing fabrics and feminine floral prints. I work to create pieces that can stand alone or be mixed and matched to complement a number of different looks, allowing anyone who wears the clothes to enhance their wardrobes each season without having to sacrifice style for savings.
SS: What is your favorite piece in the Spring 2011 collection?
LC: I recently expanded my apparel collection to include shoes, jewelry and other accessories, so my favorite accessory is the Zander platform sandal. The wooden platform detail is very reminiscent of the ‘70s and the neutral color allows them to work with a variety of outlets.
SS: Even though I am sure you can shop among the best designers, do you wear pieces from your own collections for Kohl’s?
LC: Absolutely! Being able to wear the styles I create is one of the best parts of being a designer. The look of the LC Lauren Conrad collection is representative of what I want to wear each season.
SS: Like me, you were also born in the 1980s. What is one look that you sported then that would get you on a worst dressed list now?
LC: Those parachute pants that MC Hammer wore. Those were not the most flattering.
SS: If you had to wear one outfit for the rest of your life, what would it be?
LC: Dresses. I love them because they are so versatile and can easily be dressed-up or down by adding the right accessories.

Four Questions With Whitney Port

Whitney Port hosted an intimate party at the Sunset Tower in LA last night called An Unregrettable Evening. Whitney lined the space with some of her favorite fashion picks of the season, including those from her own line, and toasted friends like Breaking Dawn's Tinsel Korey during the festivities. Whitney stopped to chat with us about her latest creations, why she's not ready to let reality TV cameras into her life again just yet, and the celebrities she looks to as style icons. She said:
On whether she'd do a fashion reality show like Lauren Conrad:
"Yeah, I mean, I'd definitely be interested. I'm staying away a little bit from that right now because I'm trying to really get a feel for what my line is all about, and making sure it really works, as opposed to just being fluff for cameras. So obviously, at some point maybe when I feel like things are going well and I can handle that back in my life again, then I'll do it. But at this point, I'm staying under the radar."
On the stars she thought rocked awards season:
"I think Anne Hathaway looked beautiful. I think Gwyneth Paltrow looked awesome and Cate Blanchett. I was so into it. It was one of my favorites [Oscar] night. Her hair, her makeup. It was gorgeous."
On her plans to design pieces for the red carpet:
"This season I'm playing around with a bunch of different textures and seeing if I can make pieces that people would want to wear on the red carpet or editorials. I obviously love to make wearable pieces that everybody can put on and just style it their own way, but I think it would be fun to play with more expensive fabrics and intricate textures."
On her latest collection: ."
"My Spring collection is really colorful and is based around three different prints that I did. I worked with this artist out in the UK that helps me put my imagination onto paper, and it's just, like, laid-back streetwear with a little bit of funkiness to it. And it's mostly silk and really comfortable
